Responsive Minimalist One-Column WordPress Theme for Sehdi.com

I finished the new responsive minimalist one-column WordPress theme for SEHDI.com | Sofie Estolloso Hofmann Designs International. I revised the web design for several days but in non-consecutive days.

I have been trying to work on it for quite a long time already but I always ended up not finishing what I started.

It was on December 22, 2019, when I finally began converting the Fluid Two-Column WordPress Theme for Sehdi.com into a responsive minimalist theme but was not able to finish it again.

I continued revising the web design on January 03-04, 2020, but did not upload the theme as it was not completely done yet.

Finally, I finished the new WordPress theme for Sehdi.com on September 04-05, 2020. I uploaded the responsive minimalist one-column WordPress theme but that was after I upgraded the WordPress software to WordPress 5.5 “Eckstine” and WordPress 5.5.1 Maintenance Release.

This Sehdi.com version five has only one column. It is almost the same with Sehdi.com version four except for the comment section and sidebar which I totally removed.

As the sidebar on the right side had been removed, I made the header, content, and footer centered, so it would look better on mobile phones other than desktops and laptops.

I deleted a few codes at the PHP pages that were not necessary anymore aside from just tweaking the CSS or the cascading style sheets.

I then made a few minor changes on October 09-10, 2020, just to clean the codes and polish the new theme.

I again uploaded the new theme on October 12, 2020. I then checked if there were errors online by looking at the page source with the Web Inspector.

For some reason, there were errors regarding the embedded link codes at the content especially the codes for WordPress 4.4 “Clifford”, WordPress 3.5 “Elvin”, WordPress 3.4 “Green”, and WordPress 3.3 “Sonny” videos.

The VideoPress links have been changed, so I updated the embedded video links at the content section. Unfortunately, the errors still occurred.

I might be wrong but as I see it, VideoPress needs to do something about those errors as they were beyond my control.

There might be some more errors on my past posts but I did not check anymore. If those errors persist, I might remove the embedded videos later.

Fluid Two-Column WordPress Theme for Pagtatap.org

I created the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Pagtatap.org within a week.

Pagtatap.org version four used WordPress as CMS (Content Management System) in this site.

The new web design was based on the older version of Pagtatap.org which was Pagtatap.org version three.

I also made use of the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for SofieHofmann.com (version three) and the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Pandan.ph (version three) as frameworks.

The new Pagtatap.org WordPress web design was uploaded and became available to the public on March 11, 2011.

Pagtatap.org WordPress theme has one main column situated on the right side and one sidebar situated on the left just like the older version.

The navigation menu was still on the sidebar and on top of the page under the logo and pictures.

The other page menu was still on the top corner on the right side. The three logos were still on top of the page.

The colors were not changed too.

But the rotating pictures on top of the navigation menu were transferred to the sidebar. I just maintained two rotating collage type of pictures on that particular area where the rotating pictures used to be located.

The fixed-width page was changed into a fluid page. The width of the page wrapper, the main column, and the sidebar of this theme were all fluid unlike the version three.

The paging was the same and the category feature was still being used as dynamic pages for any updates.

The other necessary details on this new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Pagtatap.org were done by just tweaking the cascading style sheets.

Just like the newly designed sites, SofieHofmann.com version three, Sehdi.com version four, and Pandan.ph version three, Pagtatap.org version four looked fine with Safari 5.0.3 and 5.0.4, Firefox 3.5.16, and Opera 9.20 with 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×1024 screen resolutions and even bigger than 1280×1024.

Fluid Two-Column WordPress Theme for Pandan.ph

I created the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Pandan.ph within two weeks.

Pandan.ph version three used WordPress as CMS (Content Management System) in this site.

The new web design was based on the older version of Pandan.ph which was Pandan.ph version two and also made use of SofieHofmann.com version three as the framework.

The new Pandan.ph WordPress theme or web design was uploaded and became available to the public on March 4, 2011.

The changes were not that much. I made those changes by just tweaking the cascading style sheets of the framework.

Pandan.ph WordPress theme has one main column and one sidebar situated on the left.

The navigation menu on the sidebar was transferred at the top area under the logo and made use of the drop down menu feature of WordPress.

The Page feature was used as it is and the Category feature was used as a submenu to the Blog section.

But as the framework where this new web design was based was not totally finished yet, I needed to make a few changes on the header, footer and sidebar just like with the other sites and blogs which made use of the framework.

I created a frontpage template to show a few text with slideshow on the front page.

The width of the page wrapper, the main column, and the sidebar of this theme were also fluid just like the other new WordPress themes that I designed.

The other necessary details on this new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Pandan.ph were done by just tweaking the cascading style sheets.

Just like SofieHofmann.com version three and Sehdi.com version four, Pandan.ph version three looked fine with Safari 5.0.3 and 5.0.4, Firefox 3.5.16, and Opera 9.20 with 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×1024 screen resolutions and even bigger than 1280×1024.

Fluid Two-Column WordPress Theme for Sehdi.com

I created the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Sehdi.com within two days only. I already had a basis which was the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for SofieHofmann.com, and so, it took me only two days to create Sehdi.com version four web design.

Just like SofieHofmann.com version three, Sehdi.com version four looked fine with Safari 5.0.3, Firefox 3.5.16, and Opera 9.20 with 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×1024 screen resolutions and even bigger than 1280×1024.

This new WordPress theme has one main column on the left and one sidebar on the right just like SofieHofmann.com version three.

Sehdi.com version four was almost the same with SofieHofmann.com version three except for the front page, the design page, font style, the colors, and the categories. I just changed the font style and the colors by tweaking the cascading style sheets. The topics or categories at Sehdi.com were placed on the sidebar instead of below the main menu bar.

But as the new fluid two-column WordPress theme for SofieHofmann.com was not totally finished yet as a framework, I needed to make a few changes on the header, footer and sidebar. I created a frontpage template to show a few text on the front page instead of the blog entries only. There were also internal codes that I needed to input. I did not apply the child theme here yet, so I really made some changes on the templates.

The width of the page wrapper, the main column, and the sidebar of this theme were also all fluid just like SofieHofmann.com version three.

The other necessary details on this new fluid two-column WordPress theme for Sehdi.com were almost done by just tweaking the cascading style sheets.

Fluid Two-Column WordPress Theme for SofieHofmann.com

I worked on this new fluid two-column WordPress theme for SofieHofmann.com for at least a month. It would have been finished within two weeks only but I was also at the same time designing three other WordPress themes based on this web design.

The new three fluid two-column WordPress themes were uploaded on February 15, 2011 and have been used since then but I have not written about those sites yet.

The new theme for SofieHofmann.com, now entitled Simple Happiness, was actually a sort of a framework for the other three WordPress themes that I was working on. I also intend to use it as a framework for my future WordPress designs.

This WordPress theme in combination with the Sehdi.com design version three was also the basis of the new Sehdi.com WordPress theme version four. I just uploaded and used the SofieHofmann.com design version three later than the Sehdi.com design version four.

I have tested it with Safari 5.0.3, Firefox 3.5.16, and Opera 9.20 with 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×1024 screen resolutions and even bigger than 1280×1024. It worked fine with the three browsers but I have not tested it with the earlier versions of the three browsers and other browsers like Internet Explorer.

This theme has only one sidebar but the cascading style sheets (CSS) can easily be tweaked to position it on the right side or the left side. With SofieHofmann.com, I decided to position the sidebar on the right side.

The width of the page wrapper of this theme was not fixed but it was also limited to 940px so as not to expand the content if the screen resolution of the browser is bigger than 1440×900.

Both the main column and the sidebar of this theme were fluid not only the page wrapper. I used the percentage instead of the fixed width and then defined the fixed width of the minimum width and the maximum width to make the fluidity of the theme works.

It used the shades of gray color for simplicity. I just changed the colors of the other web designs, the page borders, and the other necessary details by tweaking the cascading style sheets.

This theme is not actually really finished yet as a framework. It is still undergoing a lot of revisions to make it really a very good framework for my future designs. But it is making my web design work easier than before as it is already at least a usable framework.

I decided to upload and use it already for SofieHofmann.com or Simple Happiness as it is already working totally fine.

SEHDI Tenth Year Anniversary

Today, SEHDI turned 10 years old!

It is the tenth year anniversary of Sofie Estolloso Hofmann Designs International as a web design entity.

It was on February 18, 2001 when I founded SEHDI as my web design entity.

It was first residing at sehdi.tripod.com until I bought the domain name SEHDI.com on September 10, 2002.

Well, I did not celebrate it with champagne nor prosecco.

But I decided to change the design of this Website when I realized two days ago that SEHDI is turning ten years old today.

Despite it being just a hobby, it has helped me a lot in different ways.

I would like to thank everyone who have trusted me to design their Websites.

I would like to thank my clients for their patronage.

I would like to thank my sponsors for their support.

I would like to thank everyone who in a way have supported me in this endeavor.

To God and to all of you, my heartfelt gratitude!

WordPress as CMS for Pandan.gov.ph

I converted Pandan.gov.ph, the Official Website of the Municipality of Pandan, Antique, Philippines, from simple PHP to WordPress as CMS. I actually revised the Website a few months ago but I did not write about it.

I designed this Website in 2005 and it was officially online on April 01, 2005. I also paid for the hosting of the Website. But more than two (2) years ago, I gave up maintaining the Website but did not give up hosting it yet as I would like to turnover the Web content maintenance of the site to Pandan Local Government Unit.

This year, upon my request, Mayor Tan, the new mayor of the Municipality of Pandan, Antique, Philippines, decided to maintain the Website and so I converted it to WordPress CMS.

The web design is still the same, based on the original web design of Pandan.gov.ph when it was still using simple PHP and before that using simple XHTML, except for the navigation menu on top of the page as it is a dropdown navigation menu now. Despite the new dropdown navigation menu, I left the other navigation menu by section on the left side of the page.

I used the Pages feature for most of the pages on this Website and used the Posts feature for the gallery, news and bid sections. If there are any updates on the site, the readers will be able to see them immediately at the front page.

When it comes to WordPress Plugins, this Website is using three (3) plugins only, Akismet, WordPress Stats, and User Role Editor.

It took me at least four (4) weeks to finish redesigning this Website.

How to Start a Website

I actually wrote at ProBlogit.com about starting and implementing a blog. It is almost similar to the topic how to start a Website if you just replace the word blog with Website. I will simplify it here but I will always be referring you to the blog entries that I wrote at ProBlogit.com especially if I find it not necessary to rewrite them as I definitely discuss things thoroughly there.

I would assume that you already have a business or a topic, your hobby perhaps, that is why you would like to have a Website.

But before everything else, allow me to use the word business here instead of hobby or any other terms.

1. Get a Domain Name

First, get a domain name for your business Website.

Your domain name should be the same with your business name. It is ideal if your business name has two syllables or three syllables. How would you know if your business name is still available as a domain name. Well, check if the domain name is still available by going to the domain registrar’s Website.

I always use GoDaddy to check if the domain name is still available. If your business name is no longer available as a domain name, find an alternative. Just keep on searching until you find one that is related to your business.

Once you find the right domain name for your business Website, register the domain name.

Read more about this topic, Domain Name or Free Subdomain Name, Choosing a good Domain Name and Registering a Domain Name, at ProBlogit.com. I discuss this topic thoroughly on those blog entries. You should not neglect this topic at all. It is very important. Your domain name is your online business identity.

2. Get a Web Host

Second, get a web host to host your domain name for your business Website to be online.

I have several web hosting providers and I have been using DreamHost to host several of my blogs and sites. I find DreamHost easy to use. I also tried Lunarpages and it was fine. I have not tried BlueHost though but when it comes to price BlueHost costs lesser than DreamHost.

It is not only because I am an affiliate of those web hosts that is why I include them here but because of the features of the web hosting they offer. Add to that, they have been around in the business of web hosting for quite some time now.

Read more about this topic, Choosing a Web Host, at ProBlogit.com. This topic is again very important. Even if you do not understand the terms that I wrote on that blog entry, they are very important for your business Website.

3. Set up the Website

Third, set up the Website to be available online.

Now, this is the very crucial part of starting a Website especially if you want to set it up yourself as it is a little bit more technical. Unless of course, you asked someone to do this for you.

After you have registered the domain name and after you opened a web hosting account, you need to set up your business Website. This process is needed so that your business Website will be available online. Without this process, there is no way to get your business Website online.

Read more about this topic, Setting Up a Blog, at ProBlogit.com.

But there are very important things regarding adding the domain name and setting the nameservers (DNS) which I failed to mention at the blog entry, Setting up a Blog, especially if you registered your domain name at GoDaddy and you would like DreamHost to host your business Website.

Add Domain Name

It is not enough that you opened a web hosting account. You need to add manually the domain name to be hosted.

If your account is at DreamHost, go to DreamHost Control Panel.

Go to DreamHost and login.

Click Website Hosting.

Click Add New Domain.

Supply the necessary details.

Examples:
Domain to host: domainname.com
Web directory: domainname.com

If you have no username yet, try to create one first. Go back to this page later and supply the necessary details again. Remember though that the username and password that are needed in adding a domain name should be different from your username and password when you accessed the control panel.

Then, click fully host this domain.

You will see the domain name if it is already listed once you click Manage Domains.

Set DNS (Domain Nameserver)

Make sure that the DNS of your domain name is pointing to your web host.

Go to your domain name registrar and login.

Click Manage Domains.

Click the domain name to be able to change the nameservers.

Click set Nameservers.

For example, the Dreamhost Nameservers are the following:

NS1.DREAMHOST.COM
NS2.DREAMHOST.COM
NS3.DREAMHOST.COM

Enter NS1.DREAMHOST.COM at the space corresponding to Nameserver 1

Enter NS2.DREAMHOST.COM at the space corresponding to Nameserver 2

Enter NS3.DREAMHOST.COM at the space corresponding to Nameserver 3

Nameserver 1 and Nameserver 2 are required and you will see that if there is an asterisk near it. An asterisk normally indicates that something is required.

You will have to wait 48-72 hours for the DNS to propagate though. I am not going to explain to you what is DNS propagation. It is important for you to know though that this process is needed.

You will know if the DNS has propagated once you see that your business Website is online.

But for you to know this and while waiting for the propagation, you create at least a simple page for your Website.

How to create a simple page?

Go to your web host or web hosting provider Website and login.

Let me illustrate this using DreamHost Control Panel.

Click Manage Domains.

Once you see the domain name, click WebFTP.

Another window will appear and supply the necessary details.

Example:
FTP server: domainname.com
Initial directory: domainname.com (same with Web directory at the Add Domain Name section)

If the DNS has not propagated yet, use your web server.

See what is Your Web Server by clicking Account Status on the top right side of the control panel and just add dreamhost.com to it with dot also before dreamhost like server.dreamhost.com.

Once you are inside the WebFTP, look for the index page, normally index.html or index.htm or index.php. It could also be default instead of index. Whatever text is inside that page, you will see that online later on once the DNS has propagated. But you can also change the text inside that page by editing it, by clicking edit, just follow the same instructions when creating a new file.

If you do not see any index or default page, create a new file.

Click New File.

Supply the file name, index.html or index.php at the box corresponding New file name.

You see [Enter Code Here].

Just delete everything and replace it with “Hello World” without the quotes.

Save it by clicking the floppy disk icon.

With that, once the DNS has propagated, you will see that text online on the page that you created.

To see the page, just type your domain name at the browser’s toolbar.

There are other technical things needed to be discussed but for the meantime the above instructions will suffice.

4. Get a Web Design

Fourth, get a web design for your business Website.

Part of starting a Website is for your business Website to have its own identity by having your own web design.

There are several ways in getting a web design.

You can hire a web designer to do a web design for your business Website.

You can make use of a ready made web design made available to you by your web hosting provider.

You can install WordPress and make use of its default theme.

If you install WordPress:

You can also use your own theme by hiring someone to design a theme for your business Website.

You can also make use of the WordPress themes made available to you by your web hosting provider.

You can also make use of the other WordPress themes which require uploading to WordPress.

But you might need the expertise of someone in installing WordPress if you do not know how to install the database.

I will write about this topic, how to install a database, later on.

5. Promote the Website

Fifth, promote your business Website.

Part again of starting a Website is for you to promote your Website.

It is not just enough that you have a Website. Your clients may know about it but if you need more clients, then your prospective clients must be able to find you if they search for a product like yours.

Read more about this topic, Ways on Promoting a Blog, at ProBlogit.com.

Well then, starting a Website would entail:

Getting a Domain Name

Getting a Web Host

Setting up the Website

Getting a Web Design

Promoting the Website

That’s it. I hope that what I explained here will help you in your endeavor starting and setting up your own Website.

Disclosure: As an affiliate, if you decide to register a domain name with GoDaddy, and get a web hosting account with either DreamHost, BlueHost or Lunarpages, I am going to earn from it.

New Web Design for the Twitter Homepage

Twitter is a real-time information network powered by people all around the world. Twitter is also referred to as a micro-blogging site. Twitter is probably the most preferred social media site to spread the news as it is fast and easy to use. You are limited to write 140 characters only which actually made twitter very popular.

New Web Design for the Twitter Homepage

Now, Twitter decided to have a new look. According to Twitter, “With the new design, we’re intentionally featuring more dynamic content on the front page, revealing a sample of who’s here, what folks are tweeting about, and the big topics that they’re discussing. The homepage now features a set of algorithmically-selected top tweets that automatically appear every few seconds. It also highlights a random sampling of suggested sources; hover over any of them to see a profile summary and their latest tweet. Trending topics now scroll across the page, allowing us to present a large set of trends using little page real estate. Hovering over some of these trends will show a description explaining why the keyword is (or has recently been) popular.”

The new look of the homepage did not bother me at all. I kind of like it actually. It is not intrusive. It is still easy to navigate and you get to have an overview of “what’s happening” with some of the people using twitter.

Sofie Estolloso & Company

You probably landed on this page because you searched for “Sofie Estolloso & Company”. I especially wrote this blog entry for your information. I know that you are trying to inquire and verify if I designed the website of a certain fund company.

I actually wrote about it already before. Please read my blog entry, I did not design the website of a certain fund company!, for further information. But during that time, I did not mention the domain name or the name of the company which was supposed to be involved in this so-called investment program money making business.

I thought that this issue was over about less than 3 years ago, months after it was launched and then got exposed when I responded to the several queries of those people who contacted me. Then the real company legally redeemed the domain name from the domain squatter. But it seems like some of the contents of this old website were posted in several internet forum sites.

Since the domain name is now being redirected to the real company, I am mentioning the company name now which has nothing to do with the investment program. The ABB company has nothing to do with the money making business it used to have on the abbfund.com domain. The old content of the website is gone and ABB took the domain legally from the former owner.

In my case, I would like to declare that I have nothing to do with that investment program too. I am not at all connected with that company if there was any. I do not know those people behind that investment program.

With that declaration, I would like to repeat, I did not design the website of the old abbfund.com when it was used for the ABB FUND INVESTMENT PROGRAM – PAY-IT 4 PROFIT SYSTEM scheme to make money.

Well, that’s all, and I hope that this information will clarify everything around this investment program money making business.

Note:
For my other readers, please note that I wrote this blog entry to clarify some things regarding a website of an investment program which I did not design. Thank you for your understanding.
