Site Updates and the newly revised Pandan.ph

I revised the site Pandan.ph Pandan Antique Philippines. It took me weeks to finish it as I could not make up my mind what to do with the Gallery and News sections. The design is still the same. I just changed the HTML tags to XHTML using simple PHP at the same time. I removed some pages and used .htaccess to redirect them.

I finally ended up installing WordPress for News Updates and Photo Gallery making Pandan.ph finally more interactive. I checked the CSS and XHTML and they passed the validation. I checked them with Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Netscape, and everything seems fine.

Ok now, I would like to mention that Pandan.ph Portal was hacked, not the Pandan.ph itself. I was not checking it for several days and when I was checking google for any pandan related sites, I saw that the hacked pages were indexed. I didn’t panic, I just accessed phpMyAdmin, and uploaded my MySQL database. No sweat, in just about 2-3 minutes everything was restored. I just forgot to back up the counter, so the number of visits was the old one.

I use phpnuke for Pandan.Ph Portal, quite an old version, so to say, and because of some bugs, the hackers got into it. That’s why it’s important to upgrade all the time. This is also the reason why, I’m not very fond of using CMS such as this one because I always have to upgrade. Very important?! Don’t ever forget to back up your files and database. If you are not upgrading, it could happen that the hackers could destroy all what you have in your site just like what happened to Pandan.ph Portal. And, if you have no back up, then all that you have worked for will just be gone like dust in the air. Poof!

I was actually just testing phpnuke and I will not probably upgrade it anymore. There’s too many files and it takes long to upload. For one thing, Pandan.ph Portal was an experiment but I will not remove it because a lot of search engines have indexed those pages already. I just have to check it often that it will not happen again. If ever it will happen again, I guess I just have to uninstall it then.

That’s what I like about WordPress, easy to install, easy to upgrade, easy to upload, easy to manage, and easy to create a theme for it. Everything is just easy with WordPress!

Other updates!

I updated the site of Lux International AG, particularly the Lux worldwide pages. I added the countries Poland, Slovakia and South America. I also updated the Lux Partners page, changing it from Lux Group Worldwide into Lux International Partnership Alliance.

I updated the site of Green Cross Switzerland, particularly the Publications pages. I uploaded the Annual Report for the year 2005 of Green Cross Switzerland, in PDF files, both in German (Jahresbericht) and French (Rapport annuell). Kindly check them out at the Green Cross Switzerland site if you like to read the report.

Ok, that’s all for now. Have a wonderful day everyone!

This is a very nice site. I only have one complaint. I was looking for a list of businesses and manufacturers in Pandan but couldn’t find one. It would be interesting to see what items one can buy from that region.

Naku manay, kaw pala yung techie behind Lux! galeng galeng eh!:)

    Enjoy your week please! besos

  3. Hi Dani… my first reaction? I was really laughing. I actually just removed the directory and the sublinks under links just when you are looking for them. I was not able to list anything in those pages so I removed them. I hope to be able to put them back if ever I will be able to make the list. Every time I go home to Pandan, I couldn’t do it as I just try to enjoy my vacation. 🙂 I really would like to list the businesses but since there’s not really a lot, I guess I just neglected it. But hope to do something about it soon.

You can check the official website of Pandan though at http://www.pandan.gov.ph – there’s a little bit of information about Pandan’s economy and ecotourism but there’s really no list of businesses. I also designed that site.

  4. Hello cheH! Hehehe… thnx. Tthat’s why I created this sehdi.com for Lux reference and for others’ reference as well. There’s not a lot though as it is just a hobby. Kakahiya naman kasi kung walang website yong web designer nila e. 🙂 Enjoy your week too!

Hi Sofie… The reason why I was looking for a list of businesses is because we are experimenting with the idea of selling products from the Philippines to people in Switzerland. Thus, I’m in the process of creating a store at asiamart.ch. If you visit that site, I have to warn you. It’s still under construction so it doesn’t look very good yet. If you know of a nice little shop in Pandan which sells some unique products and would be willing to ship to Switzerland, let me know. Right now, we are just in the process of examing the market and designing the site.

  6. Hi Dani… I saw the site http://www.asiamart.ch and it looks good. It’s actually neat and easy to navigate. Anyway, if you visited http://www.pandan.gov.ph site, under the menu Economy submenu Industry, you probably read that a cooperative in Pandan is into Buri-Bariw (native raw materials, native products) bag making. It’s a small business and the bags, that the members of the cooperative are making, have good quality. I just don’t know if they’re willing to ship because I also don’t know how they do their business. We actually went to their small shop the last time I was in Pandan but didn’t ask anything about the business. Next time I go there, I’ll ask them.

Thanks, Sofie! I sent an email to the city to see if they could provide us with any contact information.

I have another suggestion for the Pandan site. Under maybe the geography section, I think that it would be nice to have a link to a map showing where it is located. Using http://www.mapcentral.ph, for example, you could make it easier for visitors to see where exactly in the Philippines it is located, pointing to a map where Pandan is highlighted. For example, I had no idea where Pandan was located, even after reading the text description, until I went to mapcentral where I could zoom in on the location. When I hear the name “Antique”, I think of relics, “Pandan” sounds like Panda’s in China, “Aklan” sounds to me like someone’s name and “San Jose de Buenavista” sounds like some place in Spain!

  9. Hi Dani… Thanks for the suggestion. Pandan.ph is not really finished yet. It took me sometime to revise it and didn’t want to just update without changing the code from HTML to PHP. I also have free hosted sites at geocities where the maps are shown, but I didn’t take or transfer those maps there because I would like to have nicer ones. I got a lot of maps from Pandan LGU and until now I haven’t put everything at pandan.gov.ph yet. I also don’t want to duplicate http://www.pandan.gov.ph as much as possible. I already have an idea for both http://www.pandan.ph and http://www.pandan.gov.ph but I’m too busy. I’m too busy revising the sites from HTML to XHTML and PHP so it’s easier for me to update them. I can only revise or update one site at a time.

These are my old sites at http://www.geocities.com

    Maps
    http://www.geocities.com/gopandan/philippines_map.html

I’m actually still on the process of transferring some of the data from those sites to either http://www.pandan.ph or http://www.pagtatap.org or where the data is appropriate. You can also check the sites listed at my http://www.pandan-antique.com (not yet finished) where I have the list of all the sites I created including the free hosted sites. You can just imagine how many sites I’m trying to maintain. The reason why I’m not deleting those sites? They were all indexed by a lot of search engines, so, I try to at least update them once in a while, just not to lose the rank. Actually, I’m slowly losing it. These two sites used to be on the first page, number 1 and 2 at google if you search “pandan” but not anymore. With “pandan antique”, still ok.

Anyway, again, thanks. Your suggestion is greatly appreciated.
