I’ve been too busy lately. Few days ago, I revised the PHP codes of my personal site Simply Sofie at SofieHofmann.com. It’s better now and easier to update. I also updated some data.
I didn’t really appreciate PHP before because of MySQL. I just hated the idea that I always have to back-up my database and if ever I forget to do it, and then something happened (i.e. lost database), then I will be left with nothing and have to do it all over again.
I am not a programmer just a simple hobby web designer but if I would like to be more effective, I need to know PHP. So I learned PHP through reading tutorials on the net.
One way or another, I have learn to love PHP and MySQL but I will never forget HTML. If you would like to start designing a website, I will always recommend to start with HTML. Until now, I write my codes using notepad. I still use HTML/XHTML combined with PHP and MySQL.
Since I have to download a lot all the time, considering that I also take a lot of pictures, I’m now running out of space in my hard disk drive. I still have a lot of pending hobby projects and I couldn’t really clean up my computer because I need to back up my data first.
Finally, my husband bought a 300 GB external hard disk drive today. He bought it for me. I was really so happy when I saw it. I can finally transfer my other data and erase some unnecessary files. What a relief!
Have you ever heard of textpad? I would recommend using Textpad instead of Notepad. There is another similar text editor which offers some better functionality, but I can’t think of the name at the moment. Textpad can be found at: http://www.textpad.com/
Hi Dani! yep, I have heard about textpad. Another text editor that I know is arachnophilia http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/ and I even downloaded it. I just looked at it and ended up not even using it. I’m comfortable with notepad. I have always like the idea of using notepad, with that I learn more, somehow my brain works. 🙂 I also don’t like using web design softwares like Dreamweaver, Frontpage and the likes.
I always checked my pages if they’re valid XHTML and valid CSS, so I know if I made mistakes. If the result is ok, then I know that I’ve done a good job. Well, some sites need to be revised though because some of them are not valid HTML/XHTML as I designed those websites a long time ago.
Hi Sofie!
Small question: Is it possible that you live in Weggis? And have met my Mom? At the Brazil Event, she had a Filipino Food stand….She told me that “a Filipino woman in Weggis doing webpages” came to her stand. I just thought it might be you, because I saw some Weggis posts on your blog 🙂
Greetings, Carissa
Hi Carissa… yep, that was me. I met your mom before but we never really had the chance to get to know each other. We just say hi and hello if we bumped into each other at the shop and sometimes at Migros Golfpark in Holzhäusern.
Hi Sophie,
I think that the main reason why I like textpad is because of its special expressions search ability, the ability to select a block of text with the mouse, the ability to select ascii or unicode and the ability to open a file in binary mode. Otherwise, I would be just fine with notepad too. Everyone has their best method of doing things and I personally think that you are doing the right thing by staying away from web designer applications.
Regards
Dani
I like using notepad but I’m also slowly integrating my other sites with WordPress so it will be more interactive. I just design my own theme based on my original site. So far, so good.
